In the forest, we have a chance to see many insects, including beetles, but most of them slip away without attracting attention. However, it is simply impossible not to notice this large beetle, whose head is crowned with real "horns." It's hard to say how rare they are (during the active season, both sexes even fly into the house), but in the rainforest, you don't often encounter stag beetles.
Most likely, this stag beetle made an "emergency landing," and we were fortunate to be nearby at that moment. The male Prosopocoilus astacoides periodically tried to take off, producing a rather noisy hum. I managed to take a few shots before he took off, performing his unusual flight: an almost vertical stance, wings spread, and long legs hanging down. The "knight" in his chitinous armor, with a head crowned with beautiful and strong "horns," flew away with a booming sound, a little awkwardly.
